Homeio
A web desktop for installing apps and managing a Docker home server.
Context
A home server has more to manage than containers. Homeio brings apps, storage, files, Samba shares, scheduled tasks and remote access into one desktop-style interface.
Idea
Treat server management like a workspace. An app store, file manager and real terminal sit alongside live system metrics, with backups and Cloudflare Tunnel available from the UI.
Craft
Outcome
My Homeio fork retains the upstream project’s single-account server desktop.
The Homeio README’s Docker installation section documents a concrete boundary: a fresh instance opens /register, then closes registration after the first account is created.
The aim is approachable server administration, not sole authorship of Homeio. The trade-off is real host access: the README warns that the terminal gives the signed-in user a full shell.
